Wildfires

Heat and wildfires are raging in Greece and Southern Europe.

As I have said before, I cannot imagine what it feels like to lose your home, perhaps your entire neighbourhood and even, God help us, your loved ones. My words would be sham to the point of hypocrisy, so I will not write any.

But,

I think it was the BBC website that shouted that Greece was experiencing the worst fires since records began:

IN 2003

Seriously? Are you kidding me?

There is a whole generation whose memories go back further than that.

In all the writings of Aristotle, Plato, Euripides, et al, nobody ever mentioned the weather?

No records from Ancient Egypt, Sumerians, China, Great Britain, America?

Nobody in Greece kept a diary before 2003 that mentioned the weather?

Or do you mean Facebook, Twitterwhatever, the internet in general?

Is it that that stuff wasn’t on a PowerPoint slide?

If we are to give due seriousness to this horror, we need to get objective about the way it is reported.

Researching a news story means more than Googling or looking on TikTok. This rubbish is dangerously misleading, unless, of course, the intention is sensationalist panicmongering.
